Congresswoman Spartz Focuses on Health Care and Mental Health Services During Stops in Madison County

May 6, 2021

ANDERSON, Ind. – Congresswoman Victoria Spartz (R-Ind.) spent the day in Anderson where she spoke with healthcare industry leaders and toured some of the area’s largest health and wellness providers.

Rep. Spartz began her day at the Jane Pauley Community Health Center, which offers integrated healthcare to individuals and families. She then toured Aspire Indiana Health’s Mockingbird Hill Recovery Center, which opened in March 2021, bringing a major new treatment facility to Madison County for those with substance use disorder, along with a new and comprehensive way of treating addiction.

The Congresswoman ended her day with a visit to the Christian Center where she helped serve hot meals to the homeless before touring the facility with Executive Director Rob Spaulding. The Christian Center provided statistics that more than one-third of the homeless population struggle with mental illness, and people who have been incarcerated are ten times more likely to be homeless.

“It’s clear that mental health and addiction issues are impacting our communities in a big way, which has been further exasperated by the pandemic. I was glad to see the implementation of more all-encompassing and long-term solutions to assist individuals and communities in overcoming these challenges,” said Rep Spartz.

“Jane Pauley Community Health Center was excited to host Congresswoman Victoria Spartz at our 1210B Medical Arts Blvd Site in Anderson, Indiana today,” said Chief Executive Officer, Marc Hackett. “This was the Congresswoman’s first visit to our health care center, and we appreciated sharing with her all the ways we are helping the communities where our sites are by providing primary, behavioral and dental services to patients regardless of their ability to pay.”

"We want to thank Congresswoman Spartz for taking time to visit Mockingbird Hill Recovery Center and support the mission of finding ways to help those battling substance use disorder," said Barbara Scott, Aspire President and CEO. "Knowing that a member of Congress is in their corner gives much-appreciated encouragement to our residents and staff."

“The Christian Center provides an important blend of services designed to address the specific needs of homeless individuals and families,” stated Executive Director, Rob Spaulding. “These services, food, clothing, shelter, showers, laundry, counseling and more, allow our homeless neighbors the opportunity to move beyond their circumstances and into a better, safer more productive life. We are so thrilled the congresswoman joined us today to learn more about what we do to support struggling families and how her office can encourage missions like ours.”
