Spartz Introduces Legislation to Streamline Advanced Nuclear Energy

July 13, 2026

Washington, D.C. – Today, Rep. Victoria Spartz (IN-05) introduced the Nuclear Regulatory Modernization Act of 2026, legislation to accelerate the deployment of small modular reactors (SMRs) and strengthen America’s energy security.

The bill would streamline the Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s licensing process by eliminating obsolete mandatory hearings. It would also speed the domestic deployment of uranium enrichment facilities to reduce America’s reliance on imports from countries such as Russia.

“Energy security is national security - and international security. Advanced nuclear reactors can lower energy costs, strengthen the stability of the grid, and provide the reliable, clean electricity needed to power the future of innovation and economic growth. America must be the leader in nuclear innovation,” Spartz said.
